I don’t blog as often as I would like (or should), but I am a sucker for statistics so I wanted to do a quick breakdown of the activity that happened in and around Houston MMA in 2010.
I think the thing that jumped out at me the most was the number of seminars that we had here in town, averaging just over 2.5 per month. Also amazing was the number of MMA style gyms in the area. To be clear, this number is an approximate, as I’m sure there are schools out there that we dont’ have listed in our database that produce MMA/BJJ/Muay Thai fighters.
(for the record numbers that have a leading ~ are approximate)
|Seminars in Houston (MMA/BJJ/Muay Thai/Others)||~31|
|Muay Thai Shows*||4|
|Amateur MMA Shows||7|
|Amateur Title Fights||7|
|Pro MMA Shows||9|
|Pro Title Fights||10|
|No. of Gyms in our Gym database (as of Dec 31, 2010)||~56|
|No. of Houston area gyms that had at least 1 Amateur fight in Houston||32|
|No. of Houston area gyms that had at least 1 Pro fight in Houston||25|
*Includes a hybrid show in College Station
Be on the look out for my 2010 Gym Performance report in the next couple of days. I’ll break down each gyms record by wins, losses and winning percent as well as use a formula, similar to the one we used to calculate fighter of the year, that assigns points for beating ranked opponents and having fighters ranking in the quarterly rankings.
