Disclosure: This item was a comp from Diamond MMA.

While attending Houston’s UFC Fan Expo last October, I came across a guy enthusiastically asking someone to hit him in the junk with a hammer.  No…. really.  Needless to say, I was pretty intrigued by the entire scenario.  So I stood there and watched as former-UFC Fighter slash comedian, Miguel Torres, wailed on this guys junk with a hammer.  The guy he was hitting was Craig Diamond, CEO (and apparently test dummy) of Diamond MMA.  The stunt was conceived by Diamond MMA to showcase the comfort and strength of their Compression and Jock Cup.

Features The Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup system is the ultimate in groin protection for mixed martial arts and delivers the maximum in groin protection while not sacrificing comfort.  The Diamond Cup’s geometry deflects and distributes force, while the rubber insert and outline minimize impact.  This is a co-molded elastomer and polycarbonate core cup.  Diamond MMA has a patented four-strap system, with leg straps and two back leg straps.  The leg straps prevent lateral and horizontal movement providing a 360 degree balance of support and protection.  The strap system is built into custom compression shorts.  It even has a drawstring inside of the elastic waistband.[rating:5] 5 Stars

Quality The Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup are top quality.  I intensely smashed the cup with a rubber hammer and I am still wearing it. The hard plastic hasn’t cracked after an abusive hammer episode.  The cup seems to be pretty indestructible.  I would like to put it into more rigorous and destructive testing but I love this cup so much I don’t want to destroy it.  The Diamond MMA Compression Jock appears to be made of spandex and polyester mix, light weight stretchy materials helping to wick away sweat.  The stitching is very expansive and very flush against the material.  The stitching doesn’t rub you raw like some cheap spandex shorts.  The jock is also very breathable.  I have worn the Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup a total of 24 times.  Most importantly I have washed the product a total of 24 times (without removing the cup from the compression shorts).  I doubt Diamond MMA would recommend washing the cup inside the compression jock, call me lazy.[rating:5] 5 Stars

Value If you’ve read our reviews for the Fairtex Competition Shin Guards and Proformance Mouth Guards, you’ve probably figured out that a) quality protection gear can be absolutely invaluable for any fighter, and b) quality protection gear can carry a significant price. Both things hold true for for the Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup. It costs roughly $100 from the Diamond MMA website, which is a considerable cost compared to other cup/jock systems.  However, in my opinion this is a small investment to protect your manhood better than any other cup out there. Keep yourself and your sons safe by getting yourself one of these. You won’t be disappointed.[rating:5] 5 Stars

Summary As a long time athlete and MMA fighter I have worn the everyday cup from the sporting goods store, the Shock Doctor system, the Nutty Buddy, a steel Thai cup, and none of them compare to the Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup.  I have used my Diamond MMA cup system for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA.  The cup doesn’t move around like all others I have used.  It stays in place giving you maximum protection.  I have taken multiple knees, kicks, and a voluntary punch to the groin.  All shots left me smirking because I wasn’t down on my knees wallowing in pain.  Simply put, it does exactly what it says it is going to do.  I have never said this in a review but the Diamond MMA Compression Jock and Cup system has met my highest expectations.

PROS CONS
  • Great construction and stitching
  • Very comfortable with minimal shifting
  • Rock solid cup that holds up incredibly under duress
  • Taking the cup out is a bit time consuming
  • A bit expensive for some fighters’ tastes
