Predictions: Legacy Fighting Championship 9

The final fight card of 2011 is here, and so is our Houston MMA expert panel, to tell you how they think the fights will go.

Instead of keeping our experts record like we did last year, this year we’ll be keeping track of their point total.  For every correct pick they get +5, for every correct round picked they get +2 and for every method they pick right they get +3.  If they pick the correct award winner they get +5 for each. If this sound familiar it’s because we are using the same scoring system for our Fans Pick’em Contest.  You can play along and when the fights are over, we;ll compare your score to our experts!

Do you agree with them or do you think they are crazy? Either way, let ’em know!  When you’re done reading all the pics, feel free to leave your own picks and comments below and let our experts and Houston know who you think is going to win and why.

Here is the complete card (in order)

INSIGHT
AJ Pineda is just too good. Jiminez is tough as hell, but Daniel is on a different level.
Barry
Chris These two guys are brothers from another mother same style so even though I am going with Daniel I could see it ending with the other Pit Bull too.
Eric Will this be the last time we see Daniel in Houston?
Justin This is a dangerous fight for Pineda.  Gilbert has heavy hands so it could end abruptly.  I still believe Daniel’s wrestling will give him the edge.
Lance Um Pineda is on a roll.
Mike Gilbert Jiminez is tough, both on the feet and on the ground, but Pineda has proven himself to be quite the finisher. I see this one being a fun, fun fight but Pineda should be able to take it if his past bouts are of any indication.

INSIGHT
AJ One of the toughest fights to call, I think Talavera is built more for a long, grinding fight.
Barry Don’t sleep on The Hulk, he looked great in his fight against John Malbrough, but Talavera is out to prove something and he’s one of the best at 170 right now, despite his record.
Chris Talavera is a sniper and I think IF he survives round 1 he will pick at Harris
Eric Harris is coming off a solid decision win against Malbrough, while Richardo took a tough/close split decision loss against Rashon Lewis. Really tough to call a “last minute” fight… Gonna go with Ricardo.
Justin Ricardo can take a shot, unfortunately, it seems like he has taken a lot of shots the few fights. Jon Harris is not someone you trade with.  If Ricardo can take him down and control him he can get the nod but I think Harris will squeak this one out.
Lance We havent seen Harris in a while, and with a career based off quick finishes we dont reeally know what he has. Talavera is as tougha as old boots, so I go for old boot leather himself!
Mike Talavera took this fight on short notice against a very dangerous opponent but karma definitely owes him one after that last decision. Look for him to go for the sub in the first.

INSIGHT
AJ Williams is truly one of the top prospects in the area. He is freakishly strong and I see this one ending with ground and pound.
Barry I think Williams has to be on anyones short list of guys who are going to make it in the UFC one day from the Houston area; but this is a must win for Garcia. That and his experience will help him sneak out of there with a decision win. This is your fight of the night!
Chris Cody is a beast. Probably one of the hottest prospects in town.
Eric Its hard to get the last impression out of my mind.  Cody looked spectacular in his last fight and Steve got caught in a submission.  Im taking Cody in what would be an upset?
Justin Its hard to get the last impression out of my mind.  Cody looked spectacular in his last fight and Steve got caught in a submission.  Im taking Cody in what would be an upset?
Lance Williams = monster
Mike I am a believer in Cody Williams’ hype as a top prospect but Garcia is the most experienced opponent he’s faced. Logic tells me Wolverine is still an underdog in this one as a result but could be an upset pick.

AJ Larry keeps proving me wrong. He will have to do it again. Rexroad is one of the most complete fighters in Houston.
Barry I said come hell or high water I’m picking Larry Crowe in his next fight! Rexroad is one of the most well rounded fighters in Houston, but don’t count Crowe out, he could catch him early.
Chris Both guys are big at this weight but this is a first for both, Jeff not cutting as much and Larry Cutting a lot. I think that weight cut will wear on Larry in Rd 2
Eric Hardest match on the card to pick. Both men have shown that they are among the top fighters in the Houston MMA Scene. Since, I have to choose… I will go with the Executioner, by split decision in a very close match. Another FotN potential match.
Justin Larry looked very poor at the weigh ins. I was told he lost 31 lbs.  I think this will play a huge part in the fight.  If I was Larry’s manager I would have advised him to not take this fight.  He has to lose so much weight in a little amount of time and then give up part of his purse. This fight should have never happened.  I think Jeff takes this one.
Lance Crowe will come in huge and strong but not in the same technical league as sexy rexy… will it overwhelm rexy… me thinks not!
Mike This fight is somewhat of a mess after those weight issues. I think that might be the crux to the result of this one with Jeff exhibiting better cardio down the stretch.

INSIGHT
AJ
Barry This winner will be chosen based on style points. That’s how it goes sometimes in Texas with Texas judges. I see Mike stuffing several takedowns in the last two rounds as both guys tire, thus winning him the fight.
Chris I think this could be fight of the night not sure either can finish the other so I look for a close decision
Eric This is gonna be a war. Easily FotN potiential
Justin I think this one looks a lot like Patino vs Spratt except that I think Mike will win, and it wont be as close
Lance Weeelll…Patino has a solid chin… bronzoulis has good takedown defence… I suspect Macaco will wear him down and get the sub…but hey, the Greek is apparently uninjured so we may see him the best we have for a while
Mike Such a close fight. I can’t really say either way and consider this a PICK’EM but if I had to pick one, I’d say Macaco edges it out based on experience alone.
