(Houston, TX – The Toyota Center) The MMA world turned it’s attention to Houston this afternoon as the fighters on the upcoming Strikeforce: Houston card stepped on the scale in their final step before the big event.
There was some controversy surrounding the Chad Robichaux/Humberto DeLeon weigh ins. Â There was some confusion as to what weight the fight should take place at. Â DeLeon’s camp thought it was 130, Robichaux’s camp thought it was at 132. Â When Robo got on the scale, he was at 131. Â At first, DeLeon’s camp asked him to cut the extra pound. Â Ultimately, DeLeon’s camp let the 1 pound slide. Â Also Jorge Patino was a no show but was supposed to be weighing in later.
Also, KJ Noons came in at 156.25 (.25 pounds over). Â In a gracious show of sportsmanship, Jorge Gurgel was quick to dismiss the extra weight and simply said, “let’s fight!”.
After the event, some of the fighters, including KJ Noons and Jorge Gurgel went out into the crowd to sign autographs and snap some pics with the fans.
Notable celebrities in the house included Big Black from the hit MTV show Rob and Big and MMA fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller (also the star of “Bully Beatdown”).

My bad! I was tweeting to Jeremy Botter of Heavy.com as I was writing this. Fixed!
Yes, the controversy around the Deleon/Robichaux fight was due to miscommunication from the matchmaker. The Bushi-Ban camp was told the agreed weight was 130 and the Gracie Barra camp was told the agreed weight was 132. I tried to show the written proof of communication with the matchmaker, clearly stating 132, but it had to be resolved after Robo stepped on the official scale.
The thing is, many websites reported that Robo “missed weight” and weighed in at 131, but that is NOT the case. He did not MISS weight, he actually weighed in one pound less than he agreed on.
BREAKING NEWS: Macaco didn’t show up for weigh-ins, so his fight with Glavao has been cancelled.
Scratch that, I’m now being told that the he did make it in time. Fight is on. Sorry for the false alarm.
