(Houston, TX) – Houston area grapplers flocked to the Clear Brook High School gym in Friendswood on Saturday March 6, 2010 for a chance to participate in the Houston International Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, hosted by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). This was the first tournament ever held by the IBJJF here in Houston, and from all accounts it looks to have been a successful one.
100′s of grapplers of all ages and skill levels competed in this GI tournament. The bleachers stayed full with spectators all day and the action was nonstop from 10am until well into the evening. Â All in all, this was a well run tournament. The IBJJF staff was well organized, helpful and attentive, and the refs did a great job for the most part.
This tournament was a big step for the Houston BJJ scene and hopefully the turnout and support shown will be enough to put Houston in the running for more (and perhaps larger) tournament consideration with the IBJJF in the future.
