Ken Chertow Summer Camp

US Olympian Ken Chertow will be holding his 2011 Summer Camp in Houston on June 19 – 24. The camp will take place at the Mariott Westchase Convention Center. Ken was an extremely successful competitor being a 3x NCAA All American and Olympic festival champion. Following his competitive career he coached at Penn State and Ohio State. Amongst the coaching staff will be Brandon Slay, the current Olympic Team coach, and Olympic Gold medalist.

Machine Gun vs Mack Truck

TCD broke the news this week that the much anticipated fight between Artenas “Machine Gun” Young and Jonathan “The Mack Truck” Mack is going to take place at Legacy on April 9. This has been a fight talked about on the boards and the radio, and should prove to be a great fight.

Ohlson Impressive in Debut

Israel Ohlson (Gracie Barra North Houston) made the trip up to Laredo to make his pro debut at Fightfest 2. Ohlson defeated Chris Alvarez (0-1-0) via Arm Bar at :44 in the 1st round.  Special thanks to Valley Tudo for tweeting the results live for us back here in Houston!

Ramirez and Zamora Win in Houma

Bushi Ban‘s Alex Ramirez and Angel Zamora both made their debut in Houma, LA. Ramirez won via rear naked choke at 1:00 into the 1st round. Zamora would grind out a decision win. Congratulations to both.

Houston Fighters go 1-1 at Shark Fights

Alex Cisne and Mike Bronzoulis both looked outstanding in their fights Friday night at Shark Fights 14.  Cisne faced Eric “Big Head” Davilla.  Cisne was dominate for 2+ rounds and was well on his way to winning when he got caught by a straight right that ended his night early.

Bronzoulis, always the gamer, took a last minute catch weight fight against the much bigger Luis Lopez (20-11-0). Sources tell TCD that at the time of the fight Lopez had already reached the 200lb mark, while Bronzoulis answered the bell at right around 182. Add to that the fact that Bronzoulis went into the fight injured and it makes his victory over Lopez that much more impressive. Up next for Bronzoulis is ANOTHER title fight against Antonio Flores at IXFA 7 on April 23 in Winnie, TX.

Cisne off April 9 Legacy Card

As first reported here on, Alex Cisne has been pulled from his April 9th Legacy fight against Cleburn Walker. Cisne will be having surgery on his jaw and will be unable to compete on the card. Legacy match maker Collin Cantrell gave no indication on who will replace him at this time. News

Hoffman Joins the TCD Team

AJ “Tigerblood” Hoffman has joined TCD as co-owner and managing editor. AJ’s bio (from our About Us page):

AJ Hoffman

AJ is and has always been a fan of all sports, as is evidenced by his work on Houston’s ESPN Radio 97.5. MMA took a deep hold on him in November of 1993 when his dad paid $15 to order UFC 1 on pay per view. He and his friends were enthralled by the violence, and proceeded to set up their own fights in his backyard, despite the fact that none of the group had any training other than what they saw on TV. AJ’s eyes have been peeled to every event since, whether it be UFC, PRIDE or Strikeforce. He has been extremely active in the Houston MMA scene since moving from Austin in his role as the Houston MMA Examiner. He has also been training for several months, despite the fact that he is far too old and out of shape to ever actually compete in the sport. AJ has a wife, a son and two dogs.
