Legacy FC Muay Thai 2 Results
Texas, not known for being a Muay Thai state, had a very good showing against Fairtex, a name synonymous with the sport of Muay Thai.  Akira Smith and John Kane carried Houston and Texas to a 2-0 record against two very tough California fighters in John Laset and Rommel Custodia (both out of Fairtex Mountain View). This sets up what many here in Texas and in California hope will be an ongoing battle that will continue to grow the sport in both states.

Blodgett out, Pineda in to face Trujillo for 145lb Title
Rey Trujillo is dropping to 145 to face Daniel Pineda (who recently signed with B3 Sports) at the Legacy FC fights on July 31. Â Trujillo’s original opponent, Ray Blodgett, recently suffered several injuries that caused him to discontinue his training,m thus forcing him to back out of the fight.
This fight will be for the 145lb Featherweight title, and if Trujillo wins, he will hold both the Lightweight and Featherweight LFC belts.
Paridigm has renovated their gym to double the mat size as well as add more gym equipment to accommodate their growing student base.
Several Houston area fighters going pro
Friday’s Muay Thai fights saw 3 of Houston’s better fighters make their final appearance as amateurs.  The next time that Akira Smith (#2 ranked), Craig Gardner (#1 ranked) and Alex Black (#1 ranked) fight, they will be getting paid for their efforts.
Smith, fresh off of signing with B3 Sports, is turning pro and is rumored to be close to signing a deal with Bellator.
Gardner will be making his pro debut against a very tough Jeff Rexroad (1-0) at Legacy FC on July 31st. The two meet as amateurs back in June of 2009 and fought to a draw.
Black announced Friday in his exclusive post fight interview with TCD.net that he would be making his pro debut on August 20th in Pasadena (though he didn’t mention it, we presume it will be the WGC).
Rumor has it that…
- …Kayron Gracie is coming to Houston and will be competing in a super fight for ProStar Grappling at their next event, tentatively scheduled for August 28th in The Woodlands. - …Paul Thomas has left Westside MMA and it is rumored he will be starting his own gym soon. Paul’s Westside team won numerous MMA and Grappling tourneys over the past 4 years.
- …apparently King Mo has signed the official contract to fight Feijao in Houston for Strikeforce. Papers are expected to be signed with TDLR this week, thus making the Strikeforce visit to Houston official.
