Robo Drops Bellator Debut

It what is no doubt one of the biggest fights a Houston fighter has had on the national stage in some time, Chad “Robo” Robichaux put it all on the line at Bellator 41 on Saturday April 16 as he face Bellator Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky in a super fight featured on MTV2. Robo opened the fight well, getting the champion into a deep guillotine, but was unable to get him inside his guard to finish the choke. Makovsky would eventually work out and go on to win the fight, but not after having to earn it. At one point, Robo was caught in a head and arm choke but was able to escape and avoid the finish. Later Makovsky would catch Robo in a deep rear naked choke, but again Robo would do a masterful job of escaping. Robo would force the fight to the third round, but would succumb to a ground and pound attack late in the round, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight.

In an email sent out, Robo had this to say about the fight and his performance, “It stings to loose, especially after 11 fights, but I felt I fought hard and against a great opponent. That was what I was seeking, a tremendous battle of skill, and I am not let down by my performance. Those are the fights you dream to be a part of in this sport; that is the ones we remember.”

He went on to say, “This is the top of the world level, and its not supposed to be easy. I felt 100% and left it all out there. Zach is a beast and one of the worlds best Bantamweights.  Congrats to him, and thanks to Bellator for the opportunity.  In moving forward I have no regrets, just get back to improving myself like I have everyother day of my life. I’m looking forward to the next challenge and will be ready.”

Expect to see Robo in the next Bantamweight Tournament, where he could earn another shot at Makovsky, this time for the title.

Houston’s Jennifer “Superstar” Scott made the trip out to Clovis, New Mexico to square off against Heather Clark on April 15 at at Evolution Combat Sports championship’s “Friday Night Fights”.  Clark, who trains out of Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque won via TKO in the second round. Scott is now 2-1 and commented on her Facebook, “We now know that I need to work way MORE ground!”

She also said that she felt like she could have continued and was far from being finished, “You DONT stop a Main Event Pro Fight..I wasn’t done!”

Hoger Prospects Make Trip to Louisiana

Chirstian Sutton and Elliot Turner (Both out of Hoger MMA) made the trip out to Louisiana for some good old fashioned amateur MMA action. Sutton would make the trip for not as his opponent backed out after the rules meeting.
