Moore Faces High in Second Strikeforce Fight

Written By: Barry Laminack

Todd Moore is back for, well, more. After making a successful Strikeforce debut against Mike Bronzoulis back at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum in Dallas, Moore once again finds himself on the main card. This time his opponent is Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High (14-3-0).

High also has one Strikeforce fight under his belt, as he made his debut with the promotion at Strikeforce Challengers 16 back in June of this year. High beat Quinn Mulhern via decision.

Both guys look very similar on paper. Both guys are 5’9″. Todd is 27 and Jason is 29. Both have 14 wins on their records. Todd has 5 decision wins and Jason has 6. They are only 2 years apart in age (Todd is 27, Jason is 29) and both have fought for Dream in their career. Todd has fought for the WEC while Jason has a UFC fight under his belt.

That’s where the similarities end. Todd is a TKO machine, having finished 8 of his 14 wins that way. On the flip side, Jason is a submission artist who has forced his opponents to tap in 6 of his 14 wins.

“Jason High is a credible opponent and a good guy to have on your resume. I’m excited to go out there and show what I can do,” Moore said regarding the fight.

Moore is much more well rounded than he gets credit for. He’s a skilled boxing and Muay Thai striker who also has a black belt in BJJ and is an above average wrestler.

“I’ve been focusing on my wrestling and my takedown defense. His jui-jitsu is actually really strong and he’s hard to submit. I have to be really sharp on everything. If I get in a good position I’m going to be looking for the punches first as opposed to the submissions. If I get his back, I’m going to be looking to TKO him as opposed to the rear naked choke.” Moore told me after his weigh-ins.

Moore wants nothing more than to see the fight stay on the feet, where he feels he has the advantage in the contest.

“I plan on nullifying his grappling as best I can and making it come down to who is the better boxer,” he said.

Moore is in the midst of a 4 fight deal with Zuffa. When I asked him what the future holds he said, “I’m really taking it one match at a time. You can’t overlook a guy like High.”

Strikeforce Challengers 19 will air live on Showtime this Friday, September 24, 2011 starting at 10pm central time.
