Gracie Barra North Houston’s Matt Wald and Kru Pong’s Nethaneel Mongonia were set to collide on Saturday February 11th at the Collision Extreme Combat 160lbs title in Oklahoma. The much anticipated fight, between two of Houston’s finest Muay Thai practitioners, unfortunately is off. Word has it that on January 16th Wald emailed the promoter regarding an ankle injury he had sustained resulting in him needing to pull out of the fight.
Mongonia will still be fighting on the card.
“They’re bumping me up to the 168lb title. It’ll be an easier cut. I put on a lot of solid mass for that fight, and it’s the best I’ve ever felt walking into a fight. Supposedly he (Matt Wald) got hurt, I don’t know the details, Muay Thai is a gentleman’s sport, so I won’t cast any shadows. I really felt that this would have been a great fight. I apologize to the fans and promise whoever my opponent is we’ll put on a good show nonetheless,” Mongonia said.
Mongonia’s opponent will be Eric Flores for the 168lbs/76.2Kg – Super Middleweight title. Eric fights out of Peak Performance under Paul Halme, and has 6+ Yrs of experience.
Good news for Gracie Barra North fans however, they will still have a fighter fighting that day. Michael ‘Chase’ Corley announced his boxing fight was moved from Jan 27 to Feb 11 and will now be in Houston.
