TheCageDoor.net has learned that Chas Skelly has withdrawn from his title fight with Rocky Long at IMKF 1 due to a staph. infection in his arm that has gotten worse.
“It really sucks to have to pull out. I’ve been training very hard for this fight and I know Rocky has too. As soon as I saw it [the infection] I went to the doctor and got a shot, but it got worse, not better.”
Skelly said that he had planned to fight regardless, but that the Dr. said he wouldn’t pass the physical and was running a bigger risk of it getting worse if he continued. He was advised to take two weeks off and not to fight or train until it was better.
Skelly has been out of action for over a year with injury and said he was feeling good about his camp.
“The timing of it sucks. Being out so long, I was taking this camp very serious. I was putting in 2 and 3 a days for the last five weeks to get ready for this since I knew it was going to be a tough fight and it was scheduled for 5, 5’s.”
According to match maker James Gratz, Skelly is being replaced on the card by Gilbert Jiminez a San Antonio fighter who fights out of Ohana Jiu Jitsu. Jiminez is 5-3 and is coming off a loss to Derek Campos at FightFest 3.
The last time he fought in Houston was at IXFA back in February of this year when he defeated Alex Black via TKO.
