TheCageDoor.net has learned that hometown fighter John Malbrough will be heading up to Ponca, Oklahoma to square off against former UFC veteran Jake Rosholt. The fight is set to take place on the May 21st “Caged Cowboys” card for the Oklahoma promotion Cowboy MMA.

Rosholt, who trains out of Team Takedown out of Arlington, is 10-3 and has fought for the UFC, WEC and Bellator. His biggest win came back in August of 2009 when he defeated Chris Leban at UFC 102. Rosholt was originally scheduled to fight Reed Cook (10-3). It’s unclear at this time why that fight was not made.

Malbrough (2-1), a hot Houston pro prospect, is coming off a tough loss against Jonathan Harris at LFC 6.

The fight is scheduled to take place at 185lbs, a weight Malbrough hasn’t fought at since turning pro in November of 2010.

“This is a huge fight for John. Jake is a multiple time national wrestling champion, a four time All-American as well as a WEC and UFC vet,” Kingwood MMA coach Tom McCusker told TheCageDoor.net via text.

Malbrough had this to say about the opportunity, “This, I think, is the start of my dream coming true. I get to go out there and show the world what ‘The Maniac’ Malbrough is all about. When I found out I was fighting Jake I was overwhelmed because he is one of the guys I look up to. I thrive to be like everybody that is on that level of this sport, so when the opportunity came up, all I thought was FINALLY! After all the hard work I’ve bene putting in, it’s my time to shine and prove to myself that I am ready for the next level.”

He went on to say, “All I can tell you is that I’m going to go out there and give it my all as I prepare for this war. In my eyes, this is my toughest challenge yet.”

Also scheduled to appear on this card is Houston’s Jermain Anugwom. Anugwom will be making his pro debut when he faces Alfredo Leija (also making his pro debut).

Another name Houston MMA fans will recognize ont he card is scrappy vet Warren Stewart.
