Breaking News: Legacy Plans Hybrid Muay Thai and MMA Show

Based off of a press release sent out today from the guys over at Legacy, it looks like Houston could be getting more Muay Thai fights.

Legacy match maker Collin Cantrell sent the release out, and in it he said, “Legacy Promotions is proud to announce our next hybrid event in Houston. The Muay Thai/MMA hybrid event will be held in Houston’s Arena Theater on November 11th.”

The show is going to be an amateur show, so any Houston area amateur fighters interested in competing can send an email to Cantrell at collin@legacyfights.tv.

Fighters should include their full name, height, fight weight, record, school, age, and whether they want to compete on Muay Thai or MMA.

The last hybrid event in the area was held in College Station on October 8, 2010 at Hurricane Harry’s (the original home of Legacy’s first shows, known then as Lonestar Beatdown).

The last Muay Thai show here in Houston was Puro Combate 2, a pro show that took place on October 14, 2010 . The last amateur Muay Thai show was a Legacy show and was held at Stereo Live on June 11, 2010.

In talking with Legacy president Mick Maynard in the past about a possible Houston based hybrid Muay Thai/MMA show, he expressed to me a concern (all be it a very minor one) about finding MMA fighters that were comfortable fighting in a ring rather than a cage. This wasn’t an issue at the College Station show and probably won’t be an issue here.

This is great news for the Houston Muay Thai scene. The scene is still very young and continues to struggle to find an identity. Mick Maynard is a HUGE Muay Thai fan and has made it clear that he wants nothing more than to help the Muay Thai scene here grow, and based on his successes thus far, he’s the right man for the job.
