Amidst speculation and false rumors of a fight with Joe Lauzon, the UFC announced today via their Twitter that Oliveira will in fact be replacing Paul Taylor, who was originally supposed to fight John Makdessi, but Makdessi was later replaced by Cerrone (you got all that?).
Last we saw Oliveira, it was about 2 weeks ago when he faced Nik Lentz at UFC on Versus 4. Originally Oliveira won via submission but the ruling was later changed to a no contest after it was ruled that an illegal knee was landed to the head of Lentz while he was down.
Cerrone is on fire as of late having won 4 in a row. His last two wins have both come this year against Paul Kelly and Vagner Rocha.
The UFC on Versus 5 card has Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy as the main event, but it also features what should be an outstanding fight between lightweight contenders Jim Miller and Ben Henderson.
