Houston’s Patrick Bierschwale and Alex Cisne (both of Gracie Barra Katy) made the trek out to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the 2011 2011 US National Sanshou Team Trials & 2011 USAWKF National Sanshou Tournament. According to usawkf.com, “The purpose of the competition is to select members of US National Sanshou team to participate in the upcoming 11th World Wushu Championships in Turkey, October 6th-15th, 2011.”
Past winners include the likes of Pat Berry and Cung Le.
Bierschwale competed in and won the 90+kg division and is now a national champion in the sport.
“The Lord brought me through it. After two 3 round WARS I am now officially NATIONAL CHAMP!!!” he said on his Facebook wall.
No word at the time of this writing how Alex Cisne did, but we’ll update the story as soon as we found out.
[UPDATE] – TCD.net has learned that Alex Cisne did in fact retain his title as 80kg national champion. What’s interesting is that nobody wanted to fight Alex at 80kg, so he went up to 85kg to fight and ended up winning that division.
Also bringing a national championship back to Houston is Paris Moran (Gracie Barra Katy). Paris won the junior nationals title at 60kg.
