The IXFA is getting ready to kick off their 2011 campaign on February 26, 2011 with a stacked card filled with 10 fights total. Part of the night’s festivities will feature THREE title fights; including a main event heavyweight match-up between #2 Derrick Lewis and #3 Taylor Hebert. The card has seen a slight lineup change as Lee Higgins was released so that he could take a Strikeforce fight with Ryan Couture. Taking Lee’s place on the card is #2 Alex Black who will be facing a tough Gilbert Jiminez.
Another change was Chad Cook having to drop out of his title fight due to injury. Cook was schedule to face #1 ranked “Hurricane” Ike Villanueva for the IXFA Lt. Heavyweight title. Stepping up to face Villanueva, in what will be the Hurricanes first defense of his belt since beating Brian Lightfoot back in December, is Gold Team Houston and Macaco protege’ Lex Pappas.
The third title fight could very well end up stealing fight of the night honors as it pits the cities top ranked Middleweight, “El Jaguar” Jon Kirk against the #2 middle weight in Houston, Team Tooke’s Andrew “Smiles” Craig. Craig is coming of a sound victory over Josh Foster at IXFA back in December and Kirk hasn’t fought since September 2010, when he defeated Shane Faulkner at Bellator FC 27.
The current card (as of February 7, 2011) is:
Hvy (Title Fight) – #2 Derrick Lewis vs #3 Taylor Hebert
205 (Title Fight) – #1 Ike Villanueva vs Lex Pappas
185lb (TItle Fight) – #1 Jon Kirk vs #2 Andrew Craig
155 – #8 Marc Ramirez vs Kirk Gibson
185 – #4 Larry Crowe vs Jordan Clissold
205 – #10 Jason Sullivan vs #8 Jared Taylor
170 – Tony Orozco vs Shawn Machado
170 – Pat Bierschwale vs Jeremy Morris
185 – #6 Terrance Ferguson vs #9 Joshua Foster
155 – #2 Alex Black vs Gilbert Jimenez
On January 9, 2011 the IXFA had a photo shoot with some of the fighters on the card. TheCageDoor.net was in the house and we spent a bit of time with some of the fighters (8 in all) getting their thoughts on their upcoming fight. We also talked with IXFA matchmaker Chris Reed and got his feedback on the card.
We have several interviews planned for this card so be on the look out for those. In the mean time if you want to read and learn more about some of the fighters featured on this card, we invite you to read our past interviews with them below.
