“I want to be the best in the world and I know I need to work pretty hard.”
Interview by: Hector Silva
On June 18th Houston will be treated to its biggest superfight yet! Andre Galvao vs Carlos Diego Ferreira will be hosted by the Fight For Faith grappling tournament and weight lifting competition. Andre Galvao is a multiple world champion and one of the most feared submission artist in MMA today. I was able to get his talk to him about his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA career along with his super-fight. Enjoy!
TCD: Thank you for taking time out of your training for giving us this interview can you introduce yourself for some of our readers that may not know you? What are some of your accomplishments?
Andre: I’m a World Champ BJJ Fighter and I train BJJ since 2000 and also MMA since 2008.
TCD: Where and why did you start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Andre: I wish to be a example everywhere, be good and work hard. I want to grow my name and my team in the US and my association system. Serving the Lord as well.
TCD: How would you describe your “BJJ Game”?
Andre: I like to fight for submissions and I like to move a lot. I like new things and I believe in all positions. Everything is on Drilling.
TCD: Where do you want to get with your MMA career?
Andre: My goal in my MMA career is to make everything I did in BJJ also. I want to be the best in the world and I know I need to work pretty hard.
TCD: What got you interested in having a super-fight here in Houston?
Andre: I love to fight and ‘m so happy to make it. I want to show my BJJ style for you guys. Also you guys can get to know me better. I’m Christian and Pastor Brian invited me to do that and so I’m here. I hope God can use me that day.
TCD: Do you know anything about your opponent Carlos Diego Ferreira?
Andre: Yes I know he is pretty good and he likes to play guard. I saw some of his videos.
TCD: Is there anything that you are going to look out for while fighting Carlos?
Andre: Like I told you, the pastor invited me to be there and our goal is to show what Jesus can make in your life. Who is doing it for sure is not us but the Lord.
TCD: Although Houston is a relatively unknown BJJ community, we have been hard at work developing it. Are bigger BJJ names starting to take notice of Houston?
Andre: Yes of course. I think Houston and all Texas is the future of BJJ in the US. We’ll see it soon!
TCD: Do you plan on competing in the actual Faith in Grappling tournament or are you just doing your super-fight?
Andre: For now my planing is just to make the super fight.
TCD: What advice would you give BJJ hopefuls in the Houston area looking to achieve a similar level of success like yourself?
Andre: Guys. You guys need to work hard and believe in your self. Never give up and be happy always learning and loving what you guys are doing. The more you train, the better you will be. Drill to win every single day.
TCD: Any special mentions or shout outs that you would like to give?
Andre: I can’t wait to be there and to see all you there. For any information about seminars, fights, and sponsors visit my page at www.galvaojiujitsu.com thanks guys!!! God Bless and Jesus loves all you! Take care!
