Random Cool Stuff?
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:33:41 AM »
The people on the site come from diverse backgrounds and I was interested in random cool stuff.  It can be anything a product, service, website, whatever.  Also explain why I should want to get it, use it, etc.

Dropbox - www.dropbox.com - dead simple backup solution, it syncs everything between my desktop and laptop, I havn't used a flash drive in months.  It even has a web interface so you can share/access files from other computers. Best of all its free for upto 2GB which is plenty unless you are storing media files.

Merkur Safety Razor - amazon.com - harken back to a simpler time, when razor refills were not $6.  It is slower because I have to go over everything twice but its worth the extra time to know Steve McQueen shaved the same way.

I wish I had a garage!  :-\ I only have my other half to kick and punch at home for now.  >:D

If you are at all intrigued in Japanese/Korean comics (aka manga), www.mangafox.com has a large collection of translated manga scans. If the comic is licensed, they will remove it, but they still have a huge collection to read/browse through. If you have a specific genre you're interested in (i.e. comedy, fantasy), they have a sorting option in the "Manga Directory" area.

I'd write some favs of mine but... given the predominant male audience (I assume), I shall resist! However, one that I started and is not too girly and might be of interest to those who like fantasy: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/reimei_no_arcana/

Since I can't install a hanging bag, I've discovered there's such a thing as a free standing bag!! This is something I can plant in my apartment... albeit needing to shove some stuff around the living room  ;D

I'm picking this one based on the stars: http://www.amazon.com/Title-Boxing-101721-010-Century-Wavemaster/dp/B00362FET6/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1308806042&sr=1-5

Anybody have this one? Or any brand recommendation that's good/decent without being too pricey? Appreciate any feedback!

I always worry about those types not being stable, but if you're not a MONSTER striker, it should be good.

The only advantage of a hanging bag vs a stand is it's easier to do knees (skipping knees specifically) on a hanging bag.

Otherwise, looks like it will work fine, just fill it with sand, not water.

Cool, thanks for looking over it.

I guess I'll have to tone down my immortal-like strength and go mooch some sand from a playground at night.  :D

Do any of you have this at home? http://swainmats.com/store/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18

I was looking at those puzzle foam mats but I don't want to have to constantly put it together and apart. Figured this would save time as I'd just have to roll it out and away. The smallest size (5'x10') is already kinda cutting it space-wise, but I figure I wouldn't have to roll it out completely. Just enough for me and the standing bag.

Any other product that y'all would recommend? Or know a place here in Houston that sells a similar roll-mat?  :)

I just went to Sam's Club and bought some of the colored puzzle mats they normally sell for kids. About $60 worth was enough for two pairs to roll comfortably without edging off the mats. All you have to do is flip them over to the non-colored / non-textured side and presto, instant home mat system! As long as you're not doing high-altitude slams, they're great value for rolling from the knees.
