Lol, Razorback don’t know who you are by saying I piss everyone off. You must not know me at all, am one of the friendliest guys you would ever meet. I mad that comments because my guys have fought tough guys in the passed, maybe by saying Derrick #1 over Hooger your right am wrong. #2 yes their are guys ranked on some divisions who fought good fight and they get ranked. Derrick has fought tough guys as well and he wasn’t ranked at all. But my respect to Hooger he is the man on top off the moutain he is the man. Also want to send my prayers out to Nick pray he is okay , I love that kid. So if i PISSED anyone off, Razorback I well my bat. But that’s was my way of thinking at that time, don’t regret it. But I a man enough to admit when am wrong. By the way Razorback what did you mean I cover for my guys, didn’t understand that comment. To cagedoor I didn’t think a fighter had to look for interviews, I was under the believe if you fought a good fight you should be interview, because you earned it not because you think you deserved it. That’s my opinion, and well stand by it.
Hey Coach Tony, this is drew, in my experience with thecagedoor.net weve called them to schedule interviews for fighters with stuff comming up. sometimes they can catch a fighter at the fights but sometimes they only have one guy there doing pbp and 9 times out of 10 they meet your guy at your gym for the interview. Also Big congrats to Derrick for the win. Nick is tough kid and everyone wants to throw him under the bus but he was undefeated for a reason and Derrick was the first man to defeat him.
also the ranking are far from perfect and based off whatever info the staff had at the time. theyll prob be much more accurate the next time around but its a good starting point. There are lots of guys who i know that are missing but all in good time. Keep up the good work ou tthere and thanks for helping me out at my last fight in arlington.
Coach I am not sure what you mean by Derrick was not ranked at all..He is listed as the #4 Ammy HWY .I do not understand what you mean. When I gave you my card I asked you to please call me when your guys had fights coming up. If you would take the time to talk to your fighter Derrick Lewis, I discussed an interview with him for after this fight during the weigh ins on Thursday. So seeing that there was an interview already scheduled with your fighter before the fight I am not sure what else I could have done.
Drew your Welcome. I’ll be more than happy to help you out anytime you need me and ur right about Nick he is a tough kid and undefeated for a reason. Rich my apologies ok thank you, still love y’all
Are we supposed to ignore this….Lewis is ranked fourth in the amateurs and Raw is not even listed, plus he beat Lewis…10/16/09 by TKO 2:09 second round. Why is Lewis ranked 1-0 ?
http://www.license.state.tx.us/sports/results/results10_09.pdf
Ignore what, the fact that he has never fought in Houston and is there for NOT eligible to be included in our rankings? It states very clearly in the this link (posted at the very top of the page mind you):
http://www.thecagedoor.net/rankingsdetails.html
that (and I’ll quote directly form the page here) “A fighter has to have fought in HOUSTON in the last 2 year. Just being from Houston doesn’t count.”
If we ever do an Austin ranking, I’m sure Raw dog will be considered for inclusion in the list.
And yes we have Lewis’ record wrong, but he isn’t the first or the last. But thanks to folks like yourself for pointing out our inaccuracies, we are able to update and correct our info as we go. Please keep in mind that we are a fairly young site (in fact April 16 is our 6 month anniversary WHOOT!) and still have a lot of improving to do, so hang in there buddy, we’ll be perfect in no time.
I think that Rick “Raw” Ross fought in houston actually. He beat Derrick lewis at sauls young guns show. if that helps. but one of the problems is that truth keeps calling him raw and the name that appears is ross…. so im not sure if raw is a nickname or what the skinny is. And to be quite honest im having a hard time containing myself because this fella seems to be setting himself up more ways than OJ did. lol. Id but i think its just a case of misplaced zealous that could be attributed to youth. Its great that people are big fans and friends that lookout for eachother but man there have been so many opportunities to knock the ball out of the proverbial park. But as mentioned earlier the rankings are a work in progress and not done yet. theyll be better each time. heck taylor isn’t on there and he just may be the best HW ammy in tx.
hahahaha, I totally read that wrong. I was looking at the top where it says Austin.
i don’t give a dam about a record.so what j ross beat me for my very first AMMY fight.if u look at that fight and look a my recent fight you would see im getting better and better.im pro now,now start talking about me.my cardio is up.im ready for anyone…i would love to fight the best
Now thats how you talk about a loss. Say what you was weak in and talk about getting better at it! Classy Derrick. I am proud as hell of ya. Awesome job! (the fight)
I don’t care much about a record either Derek. To be honest it’s all fun to me. I’ll tell you just like I told toni…I didn’t go to my fight to win, I went there to fight…I’ll let the judges decide who wins. Nice win..I really wanted nick mitchell…was on the radio calling him out and everything and guess what…you got him…well that’s the way the ball bounces sometimes…Now Raticheck…I’ve looked at your posts…and I don’t know much about you…but you’ve caught my interests….you’re going pro soon right…..Why don’t you and I figure things out in the ring first before you go pro. NO disrespect meant at all…Derek…you have a good idea…I think I’ll go work on my cardio also….lmao
Jay- you don’t need to find an opponent to fight to fight just let one of the local organizations know and then they will pair yo up with somone. If youre looking to fight the best i applaud that though i think that the big dog on the ammy hw scene at this point is BIG Jeramiah Gunter. Hes up there with Jason Ebarb and the boys. I asked to fight him for my next fight and but isn’t avail till a couple weeks later. He and i have verbally agreed to fight next if at all possible bcause i wanna see if i can beat him. Hes 4-0 all finishes early and decisively. fast big strong and aggressive. IMO hes the most qualified HW i know of working the texas scene. Why not ask to fight him?? he would cerainly do more for you than i would. But yeah im happy to fight whoever im just trying to get some fights under my belt and compete. Another tops idea is to go pro and catch up with Taylor Hebert. Guys a serious stud. No joke there. Just throwing some ideas out there since you are looking for fights. call mick or seth and they will get you on something soon im sure.
Hey Drew- Sounds like you’re a great manager lining all that up….But Raw wanted you, not all the options…but hey, what do I know, I’m only a spectator …..
Okay Tim WGC called you after you cried about a rematch with Derrick the Black Beast Lewis. You said no because you have another fight lined up, it doesn’t matter the same would have happen. A big gorilla on your ass, the only reason we said yes to the rematch. Is beause you said you gassed, not because you had a better fighter on your ass that night. But we wanted too see if you where a real fighter. It doesn’t matter how much you train, Derrick would train a lot harder. Because we are not just good fighters, we are great fighter with respect. That’s why we fight great fighters, not figthers with excuses. But it is what it is son, if can’t handle a lose, you should find another sport that doesn’t demand a lot of your heart. Sorry guys just tired of guys that have excuse, not because the other fighter was better than them. Yes Tim am talking to you, no disrespect to the Hogger Camp. Vatos Locos For Ever Hueys, VIVA MEXICO right DFC lol.
I really don’t understand what any of this has to do with RANKINGS. Speaking of, the ball is rolling for the Q2 rankings – stay tuned!
Its because everyone reads this one more, just speaking my mind admin. Its a free site. right lol
I am excited to see Q2 changes. How soon?
1st week of June is the goal (so about a month). The panel is working on the pro rankings now and after Lonestar Beatdown on May 14 will begin working on the amateurs.
how can someone be 1-5 and even be ranked? or how about the guy who is 0-1 and is ranked second? This is an embaresment how you could even run this website with crap like that.
@Dam – Welcome to the site.
I had all types of things typed up in response to your “constructive criticism”, but I was taught a long time ago by Quint Black to shake them haters off.
But hey, thanks for the “feedback”. If you hate the site that much, you’re more than welcome to not come back.
BTW – What did you thank about the Houston area fighter rankings for last quarter? Oh, that’s right…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5JTvvvFU2E
Whats embarresing is having NO CONCEPT of how rating are arrived at and still speaking up making an ass of oneself by a public display of ignorance. Just because a fighter is 0-1 doenst’ mean that he can’t be ranked, or that the site is responsible for his record. What it means is that There are not many fighters who fit the criteria. If you have 5 teams in a league and 1 of them hasn’t won a game and is 0-8 does that then mean they are not ranked #5 in the league???? of course not. It simply means that there are no teams to rank below them. Also though there were some errors based on data and computations THAT was not one of them. I pointed a few out myself but to get all fighters ranked for the first time its guarenteed not to be perfect. Now that they have a starting point with points of data entered it will be far easier to refine it. But anyone can critique…if you want to contribute and feel that its wrong simply point out who should be there and why. Then if theres an error it can be corrected. Be sure to read the criteria first though.
@ Silverback…it’s HOGER not HOGGER and Tim is still an ammy. Derek is pro. And you guys are very classy. Except when you ran across the cage flipping us off after Tim lost to Derek. I know sometimes in the heat of battle our emotions get the better of us. However, with all the negative light that has been shed on our sport recently maybe we should be aware that people watching us and try and keep those things in check. Just a thought.
but in your defense you did apologize for your actions which was “classy”
I enjoy the debate, and looking forward to this starting anew in June.
“dam” has a point, and most real fighters would have enough pride to step out of the cage/ring whenever they have more losses than wins. But its just crazy to see men who have 20 and 30+ losses? Yet are still ranked? a little over the top you think?
taylor- actaully i think you will find the opposite can often be true. Take for example Rocky Long…he has a record with more than 20 losses but no one….and i mean NO ONE including former WEC Champ Mike Brown, will say that Rocky is not “real fighter”. he is the epitome of a fighter. Many of these guys are some of the most true fighters because they take on all commers regardless of injuries or experience. Stars are well managed, talanted, carefully built but some of the most aggressive, crazy, commited someof the toughest badest guys just love to fight. anyone. anytime. they have losses because they never turn anything down.
Like Drew said, the pool of fighters in a city is much thinner than in a NATIONAL scene (and I don’t mean talent wise, I mean body count). I did some homework (basically went over EVERY pro fight that has happened in Houston in the last 2 years using TDLR’s site) and thus we’ve grown the pool of fighters for this next quarter to 98 (though some of those are not eligible for various reasons), so I think you’ll see an improvement in the quality of the rankings and the fighters listed.
But again, there are just not that many PRO fighters in Houston to begin with, much less enough to insure that EVERY fighter that makes the rankings has a winning record.
For that matter, some of the weigh classes won’t even have enough fighters to complete a top 10 for the class, so yeah, you’re going to see some sub .500 fighters listed. As the scene grows, so grow the rankings.
You guys kind of have to keep things in perspective. We are a LOCAL scene, things are a bit different. IF (or when) we expand to TEXAS, THEN we can have this type of discussion.
Again, Q2 rankings are just around the corner. Stay tuned, it’s gonna be fun!
Drew i completely understand and respect what your saying but my point is 42 losses? and ranked? it would be different if you were ranking fighters by how “tough” they were or how “bad ass” they were but it doesn’t work like that. these are supposed to be the Top fighters. I appreciate what your getting at but maybe you should consider taking another look at things from another angle.
I understand and respect your sentiment Taylor. The angle you are comming from with regard to the ranking is a good position to have with regard to how you feel about things but it doesn’t actually sum up the Houston scene. As i was referencing in an earlier post the only purpose with rankings is to put in order (or rank) the fighters who are actually fighting in Houston. It wouldn’t be a very reliable ranking system if the system threw out people based on record. Just like Basket ball or football even teams with losing records have have a rank. In this case if there are only 3 active HW pros Houston then regardless of record those guys will be ranked 1, 2, and 3. It would defeat the purpose of having a Houston Ranking if guys were brought in from other areas…then there would be another whole debate about world rankings and it wouldn’t really help the solidify the Houston scene. If you read the criteria i think youll find that the rankings make perfect sense even if we would prefer to have all winning records on the top 10. Im looking forward to the next rankings they are comming out with.
Just realized i almost copied your opening line word for word…oops.
Taylor who should we have replaced ROcky and Ivey with? Very few HWY fighters in Houston at the time these rankings were done. And even with his record Long won a title in Houston last year for the URC. Why would he not be ranked?
WELL IF YOU ARE A REAL FIGHT FAN YOU KNOW A FIGHTERS RECORD DOESNT MAKE THE FIGHTER. ITS THE GUYS WHO GO OUT THERE WITH HEART EVERY TIME. THE GUYS WHO LEAVE IT ALL IN THE RING EVERY TIME. THE GUYS WHO TAKE FIGHTS ON SHORT NOTICE WITH NO EXCUSE IF THEY LOSE. THE GUYS WHO LOVE THIS SPORT FOR WHAT IT IS NOT CUZ IT CAN MAKE THEM MONEY. THOSE ARE REAL FIGHTERS , AND REAL FIGHTERS FIGHT THE BEST FIGHTERS THEY CAN FIND. THIS IS WHY IN JAPAN AND OTHER COUNTRY’S THEY LOOK DOWN ON AMERICAN FIGHT FANS. CUZ THEY DNT RECONIZE REAL TALENT THEY JUST LOOK AT THE FIGHTERS RECORD. JUST A FEW WORDS FROM A FIGHTER/FIGHT FAN.
Wow, I finally agree with Baby Boom on something. Well said.
@rasta420 the reason that I went running across the cage, after derricks and Tim’s fight. Was because Tim was talking talking shit in front of us at the weigh inns, he was with someother Guy. My action where towards Tim himself not hogger sorry hogers team, that my apologize to the team not Tim. Now the reason I wrote what i wrote was is because, Tim came after derricks win over Nick Mitchell. About he wanted a rematch he said he gassed the first time. So that’s why I act the way I act, tired off fighters that loose have excuses. So if I have offended you, we am sorry but again get both sides of the story. Tim if you want a rematch call WGC and see you in June, or just let it go son the outcome well be the same. Now to the rankings I believe if the slots only have three fighters then yes the order is good. But some of the rankings that show losing records are not accurate, simply because there are so many fighters in the other rankings. I can understand why cagedoor is have a hard time. I don’t agree about the record doesn’t make the fighter. Records do make fighters, because the loses came from better fights. Either they took fights that they shouldn’t have or they are just not ready to move on to fight good fighter. Again I say it, there are good fighter and there are great fighters. That’s the difference of a good and bad record. Lonestar Beatdown is the starting block, Legacy Mick and cagedoor are opening the eyes of the houston fight seen. WGC pray y’all grow too, and help this fighters that put their heart and soul get where they need to. Thank you Saul, ivys and rocky for opening the doors.
Silverback Ihave talked to Tim about this as well. I now he is confident in his abilities and that comes across as trash talking. And honestly I think all of that step in to the cage have a bit of arrogance in us. But as i said you did apologize and that made you a class act in my eyes.
and i was there at the weigh-ins. the only trash talking I member was me and “The Dump Truck” and Jason and the Dump Truck. Other than that it seemed kinda laid back there. If you can’t tell by the name I am the guy you see at all the fights with the dreads.
I gotta say one thing…(don’t i always) Coach Tony is passionate guy who cares alot about his fighters and actually about other fighters on the scene too. Sometimes passionate people who live with fire in their veins will make strong statements but Coach Tony is also one of the first guys to be there to help any fighter that needs it. One of the nicest guys ive just run into. He was right there no questions asked to help me out without even knowing me at my last fight and he didn’t want anything for it. He was there with a smile and helping hand and so0me encouragement for me. All fighters got that fire and so we always have heated debates but at the end of the day character decides who we really are.
Drew I agree. I have always seen him be very respectful. I knew emotion gets the best of us some times. I am not bashing him.
Knew should be KNOW. may name is rasta420so that is my excuse. lol
@rasta420 I understand I love am sorry for sounding like a jackass just like drew said I hate people that don’t give my fighters their respect so sorry. Drew anytime bro thanks for your support, am sorry for letting you down by the way I sound. My emotions do get the best of me, but when am wrong I will apolozise. I well defend anyone that needs my support, lots of love. Vatos locos for ever viva Mexico gueys lol
Well into the 2nd Q of the year and the list hasn’t been updated. What’s the hold up?
