Last Saturday July 30, 2011 at Team Tooke, Travis Tooke tought a 3 hour no-gi guillotine seminar. The seminar was well run and moved along nicely, but allowed for plenty of time for participants to actually work the techniques being shown. Turn out was good and included a stable of Tooke coaches who were ready and more than willing to assist attendees should they need extra help or information about the technique(s) being taught.
In typical Tooke fashion, emphasis was made on drilling the techniques and getting the details down so that mastery of the technique being taught could be achieved.
Techniques:
- The Garcia Choke
- The Chopper/Mackenzie Choke
- The Reverse/Inside Guillotine
- Arm In Guillotine
- Losing the back mount guillotine
- Rolling down the Hill Guillotine
- North South/Side Mount guillotine Bait combo
- Guillotine from the mount
- Half guard bait to reverse guillotine
This was the first seminar that I’ve covered and participated in and I will say that is was time well spent. If you’ve ever found yourself burning your arms out because you couldn’t finish a guillotine this seminar was for you. It also opened my eyes to the fact that the guillotine is almost always there, you just have to look for it or set it up.
Below are some pictures from the seminar as well as a video of one of the techniques Travis taught.
Enjoy.

I know that everyone alwasy wants to go for exotic names all the times but THESE are the seminars that guys should be spending their money on. A seminar taught by an excellent coach that is digestible and usable. I wish i knew about it. Great stuff travis. I hope that Houston supports more of its own on these things takes advantage of chances like this to learn and really improve their game. Leave the politics at home for long enough to better your game guys.
Keep up the great work and good coverage guys!
Nice. Travis is a master at breaking down the techniques so that his students can drill and master them in time. One of the best BJJ/Grappling Instructors in the country.
