While not fully confirmed (thus the rumor mill), reports are that Jorge “Macaco” Patino is expected to relinquish his Legacy Welterweight title and make a drop to 155 lbs. Patino (26-13-1) won the belt against Pete Spratt and has defended the title once with a decision win over former Legacy champ Mike Bronzoulis. With the 155 lb. title open thanks to Daniel Pineda heading to the UFC, “Macaco” is expected to fight for the vacant belt at the Spring Legacy show.
His suspected opponent is Pineda’s teammate out of 4 oz Fight Club, Jesus “The Spaniard” Rivera. Rivera is riding a 3 fight win streak over Lee King, Rey Trujillo and Randy Hauer. Rivera (7-2) will be making his second run at the Legacy lightweight title, having lost a decision to Rey Trujillo back in March of 2010.
We will do our best to confirm the rumor and let you know as soon as possible if this clash will actually take place.
Macaco is a beast at 170. I can’t imagine what a nightmare he will be at 155! So who do you want to see fight for the belt at 170? Jonathan Harris Vs…
Cisne for the Welterweight title!!!!
I hope this is a rumor for Rivera’s sake. Jorge Pitno has beat down everyone he has faced on Legacy including Pete Spratt which couldn’t take him out and is 10X as powerful as Rivera. He made Mike the Greek look like a amatuer fighter so I don’t see what Rivera could bring that would pose a threat to Jorge. Point being where is he better no where. Rivera should fight Mike the Greek before he thinks about Pitno.
Spaniard! War 4!
This will be an awesome fight. Jesus is a beast.
@ joao Silva. Amateur fighter??? Shit I rolled my ankle in the first rd thought it was broke & I still kept fighting for 4 more rounds & Macaco only beat me on points taking me down and did nothing! If he would of been tested for steroids like I was told we were he would not have that belt! Get off his nut sack
Jesus dont listen to that hater shit, that foo dont no you or what your capable of doin. Do your thing jesus,
Wow. Excited to see Spaniard back in there. If you have never been in the cage with him, your words come from pure ignorance. War4!!!!
your the man JESUS.. LOVE U BRO..
Joao are you high on crack ? First off Macaco didnt beat down Spratt. It was a back and forth fight that could have gone either way. Made Mike B look like an ammy ? Are you kidding me ? What fight were you watching ? Mike brought it to Macaco that night. And if you think anybody is gonna just walk through Jesus Rivera, youre sadly mistaken. I dont think theres a fighter in the world that can just walk through Jesus like hes nothing. That dude is a certified killer and I guarantee you if this fight happens that dude is gonna bring it.
I think this is going to be a great fight.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that he made Mike Bronzoulis look like an amateur, but he handled him. That wasn’t a close fight. That steroid talk just makes you look like a sore loser Mike B.
I know there are some very good 170 guys in town that have been on national promotions actively fighting in Houston. Todd Moore being one of them why isn’t he in the mix? I think Jorge would have major problems with this guy and vice versa it would be War.
Todd Moore is fighting in Strikeforce. Same with Brian Melancon. I was actually looking forward to seeing Macaco and Jeff Rexroad mix it up. Rexroad is tough as nails and VERY well rounded. Technical striking and blackbelt level jits. Woulda been a great fight. Im sure they’ll bring someone in for him to fight for the strap now.
Jesus is awesome! Anyone who says different hasn’t seen him fight or train. His kicks are ridiculous and he’s a great all around fighter. Macaco is a great fighter, too…I think it would be an exciting fight!!!
@Greg Its a 155 bout
Jeff Rexroad is next in line for title shot
Rexroad vs harris that would b a good one…..both of those guys r ready…..
I love this fight.
Jesus, don’t listen to these guys, you are one of my favorite Houston Athlete’s to watch fight. I missed my warm-up once when I was on the same card as you, just to watch you bang. This would be a good on.
Robo
I am a fan of Macaco and have great respect for what he has done and continues to do in mma and bjj. I love watching him fight and look forward to the next one but i think that for people to overlook Jesus is not smart. Jesus is a killer. he also maybe my favorite fighter. ive got a couple but Jesus is arguably my favorite. Everything he does he breaths fire and competition and for those that have trained with him, they know and respect what hes brining. it would be a great fight. Jesus is ready for this and Jesus fights are ALWAYS tough fights. i don’t believe anyone has ever stopped him or come close. hes a beast and so is Macaco. Its a fight worthy of the maincard and one that would be sure to please. I really hope they put this one together,.
I think this is a great fight also! And if he goes back to 170 id also like to see macaco mix it up with Todd Moore! Ive been wanting to see that fight for a while now.
Shit Id even like to see Macaco vs Todd Moore in a jits super fight. That would be awesome. Both guys are very strong on the ground. Would definitely be a chess match.
As far as Rexroad vs Harris, I like Harris, but thats not a good fight for Harris at this point in his career. Maybe Im bias, but Jeff is superior in every aspect of that fight. Hes got technical striking and on the ground theres no comparison. Jeffs a brown belt with black belt level jits. Harris is improving every fight and needs to continue to develop before a fight like that happens. Ill be the first to say I had Ricardo beating him in their fight as did alot of others and he proved everybody wrong. Now Harris vs Alex Cisne would be a great match up.
YES, IT IS YOUR BIASED. YOU TRAIN WITH JEFF NOW, SO OF COURSE YOU ARE GOING TO RIDE HIS DICK. I BET IF YOU STAYED AT HOGER MMA YOU WOULDNT BEE SAYING THIS AT ALL. I CANT WAIT UNTIL YOU GO TRAIN AT GRACIE BARRA FULL TIME AND START TELLING US HOW BAD ASS YOU THINK ROBO IS.
Completely disagree. Harris and Rexroad would be a great fight. Rexroad has done his job lately for sure, but don’t discount Harris….. he is a tough SOB, and usually is the underdog in every fight. Mike B beat Harris, but I know Harris wasn’t 100% either. I wanna see Rexroad against some superior fighters as well, but I think Harris is right up there with the best in Houston. Cisne needs someone willing to fight him, I’m not sure anyone could stand up with the guy.
I train at hoger and I have trained with jeff rexroad he is every talented..I have a every good back ground in grappling….and jeff still showed me stuff that I didn’t even know (and we r in the same weight. Class) I think harris is a great fight….but when I posted ..rexroad vs harris…I was think that I have never seen harris work the ground..so maybe ( j ). Might b right…he is a young stud and stand up with jeff I think yes good fight..but this is mma …does he have a ground game..(.I dnt know ).. has anyone out there seen him on the ground…I would like to see so footage ….
@ Mike Bronzoulis
If Macaco’s on steroids then how did he make the weight cut to 155?
or even 170?
he walks around at 190 this is amazing feat for anyone to accomplish shedding 40 pounds in little over 2 months.
Win or loose you have to be respectful. If you want to challenge him again then challenge him again, but the fact of the matter still stands you lost the fight.
And he is still the Champion.
This article is about Jorge Patino “Macaco” vs a very talented Jesus Rivera. Not Mike B.
Enough said.
