The card for Legacy FC 9 is stacked, top to bottom. One of the fights that is flying under the radar is a matchup between Frost Murphy and Cris “Chop” Rucker. On paper, it is a classic “striker vs. grappler” fight. It is also a cool fight for another reason, as both competitors have decided to donate their purses to charity.
Murphy’s portion of the purse will go to HeartGift. HeartGift finds children in need of heart surgeries and fly them to Texas to get them the treatment they need. There is a young kid in Belize who will be the beneficiary of Murphy’s donation Friday night.
“I love to compete. I would compete for free, as would most fighters. So why not put the money toward something awesome,” Murphy said. “Cris and Ricardo Talavera were nice enough to hop on board as well and I expect to see the trend continue.”
Rucker’s portion of the money will go to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, a charity that helps rehab soldiers coming home from overseas deployment.
” I felt a strong conviction to donate after I heard my opponent was donating his purse and raising money for a charity. What a great guy,” Rucker said. “I chose the Wounded Warriors for my charity because I know several “wounded warriors”. In fact, my coach and cornerman Coach Frank is a wounded warrior. I felt really strong about the charity and wanted them to get my purse. I feel great going into this fight Friday. I feel strong and healthy. I had a great camp, and now im ready to perform. I would like to give a shout out to my friends, training partners, the staff and management at Paradigm Training Center.”
With two great guys willing to give their bounty for weeks of blood, sweat and tears to those who need it more, it is hard to cheer against either guy.
Best of luck to Frost, Chop AND Ricardo.
Legacy FC 9 will take place at the Houston Arena Theater on Friday, December 16th. It can be see on HDNet.
