Legacy FC continues to grow and as it does it also continues to expand. Today TheCageDoor.net confirmed something we had learned a week ago, that Collin Cantrell, the voice of Legacy and Lonestar Beatdown, is now taking over duties as the matchmaker. Cantrell will continue to be the ring announcer along with his new duties putting fights together.
“I am stoked about stepping up for Mick as the match maker for Legacy. I have been a fan of MMA for 17 years. I have seen all levels of shows and Legacy is set to become a major player. Houston has some of the best fighters and best schools in the world. I feel like a kid in a candy store as I start to contemplate what match-ups we are going to pursue this year,” Cantrell said of the opportunity.
Regarding his style in matchmaking and what he looks for he said, “When I look at creating match ups I start with who will promote our show. We have an incredible stable of fighters already, but we have plenty of room for up and coming talent. My advice to young fighters is to learn how to promote yourself. Market yourself and create a fan base for yourself. The more fans we get, the bigger our show will grow.”
When asked what match-ups stand out to him on the card he said, “Our April 9th card looks very exciting. We are mixing things up a little bit with this show. The fight that really makes me salivate is Daniel Pineda vs Ray Blodgett. Daniel made a statement by tapping Levi Forrest. Ray is our lightweight champ after beating Rey Trujillo in a 25 minute war.
Another fight that could steal fight of the night honors is Tim Snyder vs Alex Black. The fight between Snyder and Black will have a heavy influence on what direction we go with that belt.”
In talking with Mick Maynard, he confirmed that the winner of the Snyder/Black fight would get a title shot against Pineda.
He also added, “I would like to thank Mick for all the opportunities he has giving me with Legacy. I know that we are poised to become the Strikeforce of the south. For Mick to place so much responsibility and trust in me makes me very proud. For all you fans of Legacy, please don’t hesitate to contact me about what match-ups you would like to see or any questions you may have. My email is email@example.com.”
