Legacy Amateur Series: Recap and Pics

Legacy packed the House of Blues in Houston for the latest installment of their amateur series, and the packed house left happy. Off the top of my head I can’t think of a single fight that I got bored with, so that’s a pretty good start.

Among the night’s winners was Ricky Turcios, who put on his second consecutive impressive showing for Legacy, defeating Eduan Espaillat via first round TKO. Turcios landed a hard right hand that stunned Espaillat and stalked him down with punches before the ref jumped in. Also victorious was Monica Earnshaw, who outstruck Kristy Kester despite a big difference in height. Earnshaw landed the straighter punches and was able to stay inside and pick Kester apart en route to winning the 125 lb. title.

The night’s main event showcased G Moreira, the city’s number 2 amateur, taking the 170 pound title in a TKO win over Kevin Thomas. The first round was competitive but Moreira landed a flying knee flush on Thomas and followed it up with punches. The ref jumped in to make a questionable stoppage (a theme that extended beyond the main event) but Moreira looked great in victory.
