About Us

TheCageDoor.net was designed to be THE online resource for MMA in the city of Houston.

We created this site for two reasons. A love for MMA and the desire to see the local Houston MMA scene get the coverage it deserves. Over the coming months and years, we hope to see the site grow into what we think will be a great resource for MMA fight fans, fighters, trainers, coaches, gym owners and anyone else that is interested in (or loves) the sport.

This is your site, so please don’t hesitate to tell us what you want to see, and we’ll do our best to make it happen for you. You can reach us by using the “contact us” option at the bottom of any page on our site.

Thanks for your continued support.

Kind Regards,
Barry and Rich (Co-Founders)

Meet the Crew

AJ Hoffman Managing Editor | Co-Owner

AJ Hoffman

AJ is and has always been a fan of all sports, as is evidenced by his work on Houston’s ESPN Radio 97.5. MMA took a deep hold on him in November of 1993 when his dad paid $15 to order UFC 1 on pay per view. He and his friends were enthralled by the violence, and proceeded to set up their own fights in his backyard, despite the fact that none of the group had any training other than what they saw on TV. AJ’s eyes have been peeled to every event since, whether it be UFC, PRIDE or Strikeforce. He has been extremely active in the Houston MMA scene since moving from Austin in his role as the Houston MMA Examiner. He has also been training for several months, despite the fact that he is far too old and out of shape to ever actually compete in the sport. AJ has a wife, a son and two dogs.

Barry Laminack

Barry is a nerd who does IT stuff and likes to watch dudes punch each other in the face and choke each other out.

Eric Hostetter Writer | Contributor

Eric Hostetter

As far back as he can remember, Eric have always loved sports, such as football, basketball, and baseball, and competition. In all of the sports that he has watched and studied, nothing has come anywhere close to the uniqueness that is MMA. His first exposure to MMA came in the form of a DVD video of the Pride 10 fight between Gilbert Yvel vs Gary Goodridge while he was a part of the off-going watch section on board the submarine he was stationed on (USS Alaska SSBN-732 Gold Crew). The kick the Yvel landed in the fight hooked him into MMA, and for the rest of that underway, and ever since then he watches as many MMA matches as he can daily.

Lance Edwards Sr. Writer | Contributor

Lance Edwawrds

At the age of 11, British born Lance joined the boy scouts and had his first experience of a three round boxing match, never having worn gloves or trained before, needless to say he was pummelled around the ring. This started his love of combat sports and martial arts. Having trained and lived in a number of countries in Europe, Asia and of course the US, Lances lack of skill and ability to pick up bizarre and unusual training injuries, led to him developing just enough cardio to master the use of a keyboard. Still training in the hope of honing his skills to a level higher than pathetic, Lance trained in the UK as a psychologist, and has written for UK based Martial Arts Illustrated magazine, and Fighters Only website.
