Welcome to the 2011 Houston MMA Community Awards voting page.

HOW IT WORKS: Just like we did last year, the community awards will be decided by the community (hence the name). This is a popular vote ONLY and our panel will not be voting on these awards (like they do on the other awards). We are limiting the voting to one per person so vote wisely.
FINALIST: We will be announcing the finalist on January 23rd.
WINNERS: We will announce the winners LIVE at our 2011 Houston MMA Awards Show on January 26th at Big Woodrows. TICKETS ARE LIMITED, so get yours NOW!

Happy voting and good luck to all the nominees.

Community Service Award
Chad Robichaux Chop Rucker Chris Reed Frost Murphy
Mick Maynard Ricardo Talavera

A little about each nominee:

Chad Robichaux – Started the Might Oaks foundation. The foundation helps our nations hero’s recover from PTSD via BJJ and other means. Robo retired from fighting to persue this endeavour.

Chop Rucker – Chop gave up his entire purse for his first ever pro fight. He won, so his win and show money all went to the Wounded Warrior foundation.

Chris Reed – After hearing that one of Houston MMA’s own (Drew Ratichek) lost his house and everything he owned to fire, Chris put together a great BBQ Benefit that raised over $1600 for Drew.

Frost Murphy – It was Frost who was the first to give his ENTIRE purse to charity. Choosing to give his money to Heart Gift.org – a foundation that raises money to pay for heart surgery for children. Each surgery costs $22,000.

Mick Maynard – Mick was also on board with the Heart Gift donation idea. He used his platform and extensive reach via TV and local media to solicit and collect donations for the organization.

Ricardo Talavera – Not only did Ricardo take his last fight against Jonathan Harris on less than a weeks notice, he DROVE down here on his own and donated his entire purse to Heart Gift.org as well. It’s safe to say with the travel cost and donating his purse, Talavera lost money taking the fight.
